One of the first things that you will get to grips with is a typical external examination of your vehicle to ensure, in principle, that all is well not only externally but internally.  This is a routine that most emergency vehicle drivers, particularly police officers, will undergo before they take the vehicle out on patrol.

What we have done here is to provide you with a comprehensive list of things you should check on the outside of your vehicle before you take it out on the road on a daily basis as well as your comfort zone settings inside the vehicle that you should check before you leave home every day.  Please click on this and you will be able to download both lists and we would encourage you to learn the content of them both  .... you will most certainly be carrying them out on the Course.

In terms of the assessment that your Observer will be making of on each of the drives of the Course, your driving skills are considered overall against  a standard level of achievement.  The overall assessment is divided into the preliminaries that you will have to adhere to with respect to the Check Lists above and also to certain braking requirements.  Further to that, irrespective of whether you drive a manual or an automatic transmission vehicle, there are criteria measured to establish your level of vehicle handling.  Beyond that, Road Safety from an Advanced Driver’s perspective has to be paramount and your anticipation and planning skills are taken into account along with your knowledge of the Highway Code and of the content of Roadcraft, the basis of the course.

Here is the Runsheet download that is the basis upon which the overall assessment is made over the duration of the Course.
