BAFAM Observers

Our observers are advanced drivers who have taken further training to qualify as observers. They have passed a three hour test, where they have been assessed against a range of competencies.   They have been observed taking out an associate (trainee advanced driver) and doing a lengthy demonstration drive by the local assessor or the IAM RoadSmart regional examiner.

Donald Hunt, National Observer

Donald founded BAFAM, along with local IAM RoadSmart examiner, Keith Shuck over 25 years ago.  He has been a lifetime member of the Institute of the Motor Industries (IMI), who accredit our observer qualifications and has worked as Internal Verifier for Preston’s College.  Donald has held a HGV licence and is a keen rally motor sport driver and navigator.

Terry Godbert, Chief Observer, National Observer, Local Assessor and IAM RoadSmart National Training Team

Terry has been with BAFAM for almost 15 years and has spent his life in the industry as a motor engineer.  He is Chairman and Chief Observer for BAFAM and has achieved a high level of qualification, meaning he is able to provide training and assessment for new group observers. Terry  holds IAM RoadSmart Masters and is a registered Masters Mentor, providing support and training for other advanced drivers who wish to take the Masters level.
