Blackpool & Fylde Advanced Motorists Group
BAFAM is our acronym for the Blackpool & Fylde Advanced Motorists Group.
We are the affiliated IAM Group covering the Lancashire coastline between Fleetwood and Lytham St. Annes extending some distance inland.
This region includes the busy resort of Blackpool as well as the farmlands, villages and small townships within the rural Fylde.
The M55 motorway crosses the Fylde to Blackpool and so town, country and motorway driving are all on our doorstep.
Our success rate .... we are pleased to tell you that over the last year, of all the Associates taking the test with us, 90% passed.
What's happening with our website . . .
What we want to do with our website is to introduce you to the principles of Advanced Driving by reference to as many elements of information that we can reasonably provide you with.
Please feel free to browse around it and ask any questions you might think of to persons on our Contact Us page in order to satisfy your curiosity and so encourage you to get involved with us on our very exciting driving outings ....
The IAM ( Institute of Advanced Motorists ) delivers its highly regarded Skill for Life Advanced Driving Courses and tests with DriveCheck check drives and other services through the medium of some 200 local Groups.
All Groups are run by unpaid volunteers trained to IAM national standards and who typically will include retired and former police drivers. Together they represent a unique source, with unparalleled experience and expertise

The younger end of our population perceive the Advanced Driver as perhaps male, getting on a bit with a pension, a few grey hairs and driving around wearing a flat cap whilst smoking a pipe in a big old Rover, not that there is anything wrong with that, as you are never too old to learn. However, that perception couldn’t be further from the actual truth. Reading this now, you can help to shift that perception more towards the younger end. You probably don’t know it but you do now, that you can take the Advanced Driving Test long before you reach pension age, in fact, you can enjoy the course of Advanced Driving with us even when you are 17 years old.
All you need, is to have held your full licence for 3 months only and you can apply to join us .... not many people know that!!
No matter what age or whether you are male or female, you don’t even need to take the test if you don’t want to .... so take our challenge as we are so confident that you would enjoy the course and not least because we can make you a much better driver that what you are now AND YOU COULD SAVE MONEY ON INSURANCE if you do go on to pass the test.
Contact Judith now and we can go together on a TOTALLY FREE ASSESSMENT DRIVE and point you in the right direction. Give it a go. WHAT HAVE YOU TO GOT TO LOSE
The first thing to remember about any car and it doesn’t matter what type of car it is or how much it cost ..... It’s a heap of junk and it cannot think for itself, you have to think for it and if you tell it to do the wrong thing, it will do it without any problem. Secondly, as far as the driver is concerned, any Wally can drive a car ..... you have probably seen enough of them around to agree with that statement for yourself .... It is the driver who is sympathetic to the vehicle and drives in a matter that competently displays the technical mastery of it and reacts appropriately, by being aware of and in the planning of dealing with any hazard that might compromise road safety around him or her. Would that latter statement describe an IAM Advanced Driver? .... Yes it certainly would. It is the sign of a driver that actually is a good driver by comparison to those who think they are good drivers, when in real terms, they really are not as good as what they think they are.
Which driver would you like to be? ....... Do you fancy a challenge?
