Little white lines with big gaps .... Centre line marking only
Long white lines with little gaps .... Hazards lines tell you to be careful
Solid white lines .... Do not cross or straddle ... See what the Highway Code says about the exceptions about these lines ....
You would be surprised how many people don’t know about the road markings they see every day !!
Hazards lines .... Cat’s eyes every space
Solid white lines .... Cat’s eyes twice as many as hazard lines
Do cat’s eyes give you information about your road markings at night ? ..... Yes they do
Centre line markings .... Cat’s eyes every other space
Whilst we are on about cat’s eyes then, what about on the Motorway?

We describe this as a “Double Bend” with the first bend to negotiate either being to the left or to the right
Here is a bit of a change to that principle. This road sign although fitted with exactly the same triangular sign as above, has the white plate underneath it with the distance that the bends take to clear.
We now must refer to this as “A Series of Bends”
Here’s the clever bit .... when does that “Series of Bends” finish though ..... Simples .... Just look on the other side of the road to see the rear of the sign that tells the oncoming traffic that they are going to enter the same bends from their side the you have just completed!
( Actually it’s not clever, it’s just good observational skills that you will learn with us ... This and a lot more )
Always treat this “Slippery Road” sign with great respect.
It doesn’t matter what car you are driving, the sign in principle tells you that the road surface leaves a lot to be desired in terms of its grip and your car might not like it.
Just as a reminder .... Don’t forget that when you see two signs, one mounted above the other like this, then the top sign is the first hazard that you are going to have to deal with. In this example, the pedestrian crossing comes before the roundabout
What are you expecting to happen ahead here then?
Always watch out for this one ..... Remember the “Lollipop Lady” holds her lollipop in certain ways to give you information that she is either doing nothing, or getting ready to do something and finally she is doing something.
Again watch out for the Patrol sign with fitted lights. Is there an advisory speed limit of 20mph given when the lights are lit?

Just for a bit of a teaser then ....
Which one of these is the Pelican Crossing?
Now .... which push button is associated with the Pelican, the Pegasus, the Toucan and the Puffin Crossings?
