Just as an opener to this page, how often do you see this road sign?

Always treat a “Slippery Road” with great respect.  It doesn’t matter what car you are driving, the sign in principle tells you that the road surface leaves a lot to be desired in terms of its grip and your car might not like it.

Did you know in 2003, that over 64,000 accidents in skidding situations resulted in personal injury cases?  It’s quite a shocking statistic really but when you remember not too long ago, our roads were full of real ice and black ice and snow and how many of us did have that front end or the back end slipping away from us and as we might have found out, it can be a bit frightening.

In most cases, the only time you get the chance to practice how to control a car in a skid is when the car is actually skidding, a time when it’s actually too late.

If a vehicle gets into a skid, there is only one person to blame and that person, without any exception, is the driver, whether perhaps when driving just a tad faster that we ought to, the sudden or excessive braking or the coarse steering or the harsh acceleration gets us into that little bit of bother as the car doesn’t respond like it should

As Advanced Drivers however, discerning as we are, we should know how to deal with a skidding vehicle.

With that in mind and in anticipation of a discounted cost to Group Members and Associate Members, we can arrange such courses for you through BAFAM as we have access to an excellent organisation that provides skidding appreciation and awareness and the means by which to control the vehicle should that untoward situation arise.  The course of Skid Control is designed to instil the ability to recognise the situation and develop instinctive and corrective reactions from within the latest computerised technology vehicle.

We would encourage you to take part in such a course, ideally during the Advanced Driving Course with us, as it not only can be a bit of fun as everything is in a controlled environment but it could also prove to be a lifesaver.

To get an idea of what the course involves, please click here to link to www.nccc.uk.com and have a look around their site ... It’s very interesting
